We have kept in contact with the program director at the Boys and Girls Club throughout the past week. We decided on holding our carnival at the Club either next Wednesday or Friday before lunch time. It'll be spring break, so hopefully there will be plenty of kids at the Club those days to participate in our event. We're also planning on going shopping to get supplies for our games and prizes. The Boys and Girls Club director said that they have prizes at the Club that we are welcome to use if we're interested. This way, we can spend more money on having good games for the kids to play that will hold their attention for a longer period of time. Our overall goal of the project is to establish a fun and welcoming environment for the kids that attend the Boys and Girls Club where they can hopefully get some of their energy out before it's time for lunch.

This past week, my group encountered a slight bump in the road, but it's nothing that we can't deal with and get over as a team. The date on which we wanted to hold our carnival event at the Boys and Girls Club isn't going to end up working out. We have to hold our carnival during the week, which would normally be okay but with differing schedules, it might be hard to find a date that will end up working. With the final presentation approaching quicker than we expected, we need to work on this as much as possible in order to be finished and ready to present to our community by the end of April. With only about two months left to complete our Carni at the Club project, we need to get to work on collecting donations, buying and making games and prizes, and holding the final event. If you're interested in supporting our cause, you can encourage others to leave donations in our donation boxes or even donate yourself!
This week, we accomplished a lot! I have been in contact with the Program Director of the Boys and Girls Club, and we decided on a date for the event! The Director also told us that we could hold our carnival outside if the weather permits. We have options now, so we can decide exactly what we want to do when the time comes. We have decided we are putting a second donation box out this week, also. So far, we have collected some money to put towards our project. We also think we are going to buy one big raffle prize instead of buying little prizes for every game. We are teenagers, after all, and we're kind of broke.
When we first found out about the 20Time Project, our group struggled to think of something that was important to us. We had several ideas, but all of them got shot down eventually. We finally came up with an idea. We were going to collect donations of coats, blankets, gloves, socks, etc. from the schools in our district, and donate them to the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto. This idea also changed in time, but it kept the same concept. Now, our final idea is to collect money and prize donations from businesses in our community and set up a 'carnival' at the Boys and Girls Club for the kids to participate in. By winning the games, the attendees at the 'carnival' will earn prizes. My role in this project is to work both with my group and the Boys and Girls Club manager to determine the best time and date to match our schedules. As of right now, we're waiting on a response from said manager to confirm our date. The goal for April 30th is to have had our carnival and met with the Boys and Girls Club workers to talk about how our event impacted the kids. We will also hopefully have our presentation completed and ready to present on the 30th. I can work with my group to be completely ready for the presentation by staying in contact with the Boys and Girls Club.
This week, my group mates and I managed to get into contact with the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto. We talked to their manager on the phone, and she listened to our idea and said that we would be able to get an open time slot at the Boys and Girls Club to do our carnival for the kids. We had a short, but productive conversation with her Friday morning. We went over topics like how many kids would be at the Boys and Girls Club to participate in the carnival, what month, day of the week, and time works best for both us and the Boys and Girls Club, and many other things. She gave us her email so we are able to stay in contact with her throughout our project, and we told her we would get back to her with the best dates for our schedules very soon. Hopefully, we will be able to do that this coming up week. I think our short term future goal should be comparing sports schedules and finding the dates that would work best for the four of us as a group and getting back to the manager at the Club with them.
Over the past week, my group and I have tried to get into contact with the Boys and Girls Club of Bethalto. They didn't answer when we called the first time, but we plan on calling them again today. In hopes that we can get a hold of someone that works there, we'll set up a time and date sometime in the future for our carnival. Of course, we can only do this is they are on board and in support of our ideas for our project. If they aren't, we'll be setting up a new plan soon. We're also going to start getting prizes collected so we are prepared. We've put a donation box in Wendy's Hair Salon in Bethalto. We plan on putting out more boxes across businesses in town. Our plans for the future also include making a list of games to play at the carnival and the rules for them. While making this list, we'll also decide what prizes should be won for games and what should be the raffle prize(s). Finally, we should make a shopping list consisting of the things we'll need for the games and any prizes that we may need to buy.
Hi, welcome to my blog! My name is Kennedy, and I'm a freshman at Civic Memorial High School. For our 20Time Project in our Honors English 1 class, my group and I are doing "Carni At The Club". We're planning on hosting a small event at our local Boys and Girls Club with carnival games set up for the kids to play and win prizes. This week, we've set our plan in stone by deciding on a final idea that we could all agree on. Next week, we're planning on contacting the Boys and Girls Club to set up a date and time that will work best for both our group and their organization. We also plan on spreading the word around the community about donating possible prizes and other necessary items that we will be looking for to help organize the carnival.
